Colin Duncan 

As the managing director for COVE at Toledo Museum of Art, Colin oversees the development of Visual Literacy applications with the vision of reducing incidents and improving workplace safety.

Colin is a Fellow of the National Safety Council and recognized thought leader in workplace safety and health. He advises the Council and Campbell Institute on their strategy for workplace safety and health. He also serves as an advisor to Human Factors firm SafeStart and Electrical Safety consulting firm Lewellyn Technology.

He has recently been appointed as a Professorial Lecturer at the Workplace Safety and Health Management Research Unit at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University. He and Dr. David Michaels have established this center to drive research into our understanding of occupational safety and to provide new insights and better solutions to the safety challenges we face.

Colin led the DEKRA Insight organization globally for 8 years, driving the strategy, vision and innovation necessary to save lives, prevent injuries, and protect assets for organizations around the world. He led the firm’s 500+ employees in 17 countries, guiding the development and deployment of organizational and process safety consulting that helped protect over 2 million employees worldwide. DEKRA Insight was built from legacy companies: BST - specialists in safety culture and behavior based safety; Chilworth – process safety specialists; RCI – safety software systems; RAR Australia; RTC – human factors and neuroscience of safety. Colin played an instrumental role in the Serious Injury and Fatality research jointly conducted by BST and ORC, leading the research team at BST.

He has worked across a broad range of industries, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, personal and household products, mining, transportation, utilities, and food and agriculture.

Colin has worked extensively with leadership teams to facilitate the development of strategies to improve safety and operational performance. He has also worked one-on-one with executives to help them refine their leadership skills and improve their ability to deploy successful strategic safety initiatives. He is known as a specialist in operational culture and its impact on safety.
